About the role:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess strong SQL capabilities, a solid understanding of database design and architecture, and the ability to translate business needs into effective technical solutions. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative spirit to work with a remote team across different time zones.

As a Data Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, including CRUD operations, stored procedures, functions, and views.
  • Translate loose specifications from non-technical stakeholders into actionable technical solutions.
  • Design and architect databases in an MS-SQL environment, working on both greenfield projects and adapting existing solutions.
  • Analyze system logging and perform fault finding in multi-tier applications.
  • Identify optimization opportunities and strategies for implementation in live systems.
  • Understand data warehousing concepts and implement effective data change strategies.
  • Design and implement complex ETL processes to ensure smooth data integration.
  • Develop reports using SSRS and Power BI for data visualization and business insights.
  • Collaborate effectively with remote team members across various time zones.

 

You’re good at:

  • Strong experience SQL experience, including comprehensive knowledge of managing queries and database functions.
  • Experience in database design and architecture.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguities and deliver quality solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with different levels of the organization.
  • Experience analyzing logging and fault finding in multi-tiered applications.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and best practices for data change strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage complex ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in report implementation using SSRS and Power BI.

 

 

You might also have:

  • Knowledge of other data-centric technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with cloud implementations and hybrid data warehouses at medium to large scale.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C#, or Rust.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members to enhance their skills and professional growth.

 

 

You should know:

  • This role is a remote UK based role in the UK, with the requirement to attend the Derby office on a semi regular basis
  • You must have the right to work in the UK
  • At times flexibility to working hours is beneficial as you work across global teams.
